The U.S. Export Controls laws and regulations aim at protecting the national security, economic interests and foreign policies of the United States. The application of these laws and regulations can be challenging for those not familiar with them. The Office of Export Controls Services (OEC) at the University of Pittsburgh was created to provide best practices advice and hands-on assistance to the University community for compliance with these laws and regulations. The OEC houses the Export Controls Officer who is responsible for identifying areas at the University that are affected by the export controls regulations and working with those areas to develop systems and procedures that comply with the regulations. The OEC is also responsible for developing and offering regular training sessions for the community as well as providing written advice on its website that cover various topics of interest.
